Three persons were arrested with 65 gm of suspected heroin by a special squad of the Perumbavoor ASP on Tuesday (May 20).
The arrested were identified as Abdul Bashar, 30, Bich Milan, 58, and Rustom Ali, 22, all residents of Nagaon in Assam. They were nabbed from the Nedumthodu Junction based on a tip-off received by District Police Chief (Ernakulam Rural) M. Hemalatha.
They had allegedly smuggled in heroin by train from Assam and were on their way from Aluva to Allapra on an autorickshaw when they were intercepted. The suspected heroin was found hidden in six small boxes.
The police suspect Bashar, who works as a contractor in a plywood company in Allapra, to be a key link in the racket smuggling heroin to Kerala from Assam. He used his job as a cover for his alleged smuggling bids. The accused had been under police surveillance for a while.
