The Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society on Thursday announced a new partnership with the Association of Medical Directors of Information Systems.

Together, HIMSS and AMDIS aim to offer an array of education and digital transformation resources to physicians, chief medical information officers and provider executives across the healthcare.

WHY IT MATTERS
HIMSS, parent company of Healthcare IT News, is teaming with AMDIS, the professional society for CMIOs and other and clinical IT leaders, after many years of collaboration – such as the annual AMDIS/HIMSS Physicians’ Executive Forum, which is scheduled for March 3 at HIMSS25 in Las Vegas.

The expanded partnership aims to leverage the unique strengths of both organizations to better support the evolving needs of clinical executives worldwide.

The agreement enhances the partnership between AMDIS and HIMSS, which includes new educational offerings for health professionals, collaborative work on public policy, and co-hosted events. These joint efforts will provide robust resources and networking opportunities for physicians, chief medical information officers (CMIOs), clinical leadership and health technology professionals worldwide.

The new partnership between AMDIS and HIMSS will focus, among other things, on exclusive educational initiatives. These would include executive training programs and resources to provide a comprehensive and multi-modal learning experience for clinical leaders to drive digital health transformation at their organizations.

Both associations will also continue to promote leadership through efforts such as the HIMSS-AMDIS Physician Executive Award, which recognizes exceptional physician leaders in health information and technology, as well as explore new, blended membership models that bring together the strengths of both communities.

AMDIS and HIMSS will codevelop and cross-promote joint healthcare conferences, including the HIMSS Global Health Conference & Exhibition and the AMDIS Physician-Computer Connection Symposium, and will collaborate on opportunities to deliver new programs to support the clinician executive.

While the partnership will focus on North America at first, the groups say, the aim is to expand internationally, developing new educational and membership initiatives to expand and enhance both organizations’ global reach.

THE LARGER TREND
At the upcoming HIMSS25 AMDIS/HIMSS Physicians’ Executive Forum, sessions will focus on an array of opportunities and challenges for CMIOs and other physician IT execs. Among some of the big themes explored: ambient listening technologies in the care setting, the role of predictive analytics and robotic process automation in care delivery, emerging technologies, value-based care models and more.

Among the sessions scheduled for the preconference forum:

  • “Healing Trauma and Supporting Physician Well-Being with Virtual Reality”
  • “What Physician Leaders Need to Know about Cybersecurity”
  • “Innovating with Focus and Purpose: How Physician Leaders Can Drive Lasting Change”

ON THE RECORD
“Through our partnership with AMDIS, we are creating a trusted network that enables physicians and health system executives to collaborate and share insights that will transform the future of the global health ecosystem, ultimately improving care delivery and patient outcomes,” said HIMSS president and CEO Hal Wolf in a statement.

“Digital health transformation is rapidly accelerating, and this partnership will provide the tools and resources clinical leaders need to lead and support advanced infrastructures and stay at the forefront of health innovation,” he said.

“We are excited to enter into this new phase of collaboration with HIMSS,” added AMDIS CEO Richard L. Rydell. “By combining our expertise in clinical informatics with HIMSS’s global influence in health technology, we can offer unprecedented educational opportunities and tools for physician leaders, ensuring they are equipped to globally advance patient care and outcomes through education, networking and content development.
